10 Easy Recipes for Dinner
If you’re like most people, mealtime can bring about stress just thinking about it – from finding something loved by everyone in your family to having the time to shop for and prepare a nice family meal. Instead of viewing mealtime as a source of stress, approach dinners with the same strategy that you would use for a project at work: plan and execute.
Start by making a list of staple foods or proteins that your family likes and use them to build a meal. Items such as pasta or rice, chicken or pork, tortillas or bread are easy starting points.
Find Recipes that are Easy to Follow
Recipes that require lengthy and complicated steps of prep work are intimidating on any day let alone a weeknight. A good rule of thumb is that if you read through the recipe ahead of time and feel like you could come close to fixing it without looking back at it, then it’s probably “just right” for you. Don’t be afraid to use an already-prepared item in place of making it from scratch such as frozen pizza dough or chicken stock.
Look for Meals that are Easy to Make
Following the same principle, find meals that have cooking steps you feel comfortable with such as sautéing, broiling, baking, grilling, searing, and so on. Also, there are multiple ways to amend or substitute a cooking technique for something simpler. For instance, a recipe may call for browning the chicken in a pan first, but baking could be substituted and get a similar result. Using a slow-cooker is another simple, easy solution if you don’t want the fuss: assemble it the night before, turn it on the next morning, and dinner will be ready when you come home!
Shop for Ingredients for Multiple Meals
If you’re cooking rice, make enough for tonight’s meal and use the remaining for a different meal the following night. This is an easy solution to families that don’t like leftovers. Also, get the kids involved. From making their own individual pizzas to adding toppings to complete a meal, involving the kids is a great way for them to try new things to help.
